Father Schroeder is the
keynote and will address the deacons and their wives on the mission of the
Church based on his
book: “What is the Mission of the Church, A Guide for Catholics.”
The powerful
vision of the Second Vatican Council that the church is "missionary by its very
nature" implies that every parish and every Christian through baptism is also to
be "missionary by its/our very nature." The convocation will explore the
who, why, where and what of mission today which takes place both across the
street and around the world.
The talk will address how the idea of mission has changed
from ‘Ransoming Pagan Babies’ to mission on every continent. Looking at the big
picture: God's Mission, Reign of God, and Christ as Savior. "The what of
mission: A Single but Complex Reality and The Mission-Driven Parish and Diocese:
The Spirituality and Practice of Mission in the local Church.
